Today, my father and his best friend have been friends for 75 years. They met in kindergarten when they were both 5-years-old. They both have grown children and grand children. And they just returned home from a vacation in Australia, a trip they had been planning for as long as I can remember. The fact that they are still smiling and making memories together 75 years later MMT.

Today, exactly 10 years ago almost to the minute, I stopped short at an intersection and the car behind me rear ended me. The driver was a grad student at UF, just like me. He was so cordial and apologetic. As we waited for the cops and the tow truck we chatted and then started laughing together about all sorts of stuff. We exchanged numbers and the rest is history. We just celebrated our 8th wedding anniversary. MMT

Today, the only reason I’m alive is because of my little brother. 7 years ago I swallowed a bottle of prescription pain killers. No more than 30 seconds later my brother called me from Iraq and told me how much he hates it there and that the only thing keeping him going is knowing that in a few months he’ll be back home hanging with his favorite person – me. I vomited up the pills and never told a soul. My brother and I are now roommates. MMT

Today is the one year anniversary of my dad’s unexpected passing. My mom’s new boyfriend (who has been one of her best friends since childhood) listens to all our family stories, isn’t bothered that my mom still wears her wedding ring, and even prepared a special night for my mom last week on my parent’s anniversary just to take her mind off things. Today, the man that saved my life 28 years ago when he singlehandely fought off three other men who were trying to rape me, walks with a cane due to the leg injury he suffered by doing so. And he looked so proud today when he put down his cane and slowly walked our daughter down the aisle. MMT

Today, my dad came home with a boquette of roses for my mom. She asked, “What’s the occasion?” He said, “Four of my coworkers were complaining about their wives over our lunch break today. They went into detail about all their problems. And suddenly as I sat there I realized how lucky I am, that after 27 years of marriage I still have no complaints or regrets.” My parent’s love MMT.

Today, I was shopping at Wal-Mart when I noticed a man in line 4 people in front of me who was buying 10 dozen yellow roses. After he finished paying, he pulled a rose out and handed it to the cashier. She smiled. Then he walked around and handed a rose to every other cashier, the security guards and several other people who walked by. I got a rose too. That man MMT.

Today, is the 14th day in a row that my nursing home patient's grandson has come to visit her. Two weeks ago I told him that the only time I see his grandmother smile all week is when he visits her on Sunday mornings. MMT

Today, I’m back home with my family. Six months ago in Afghanistan I was shot three times. As I was bleeding and slowly losing consciousness an Afghan civilian who I’ve never met carried me to safety and alerted a US medic of my whereabouts. I don’t even know his name, but he’s the only reason I’m alive to tell this story. MMT

Today, a homeless man whom I recognize from around the neighborhood came into my bakery and purchased a large birthday cake (I gave him a 40% discount). I curiously watched as he walked the cake across the street to another homeless man. The other man started laughing and then the two men hugged. MMT

Today, my best friend is the guy who shared a laugh with me 20 years ago over the fact that we were wearing the same exact shirt when we randomly sat next to each other in our college calculus class. My wife is the girl who randomly sat next to me and chatted with me for hours on a flight from NYC to San Diego that I took on my way to a business conference 18 years ago. MMT

Today, one of the football players at our school (who stands about 6’5) broke out in tears of joy and exclaimed, “Dad!” as he ran into his father’s arms in the middle of our Algebra II class. His father just returned home from Iraq early and came over to the school to surprise his son. MMT
